In anticipation of Interstellar's Blu-ray release I am revisiting some of my favorite sci-fi films. What are some of yours?
Currently watching 2001: A Space Odyssey with 2010 on deck.
I've already watched:
Moon
and Sunshine

Well, moon is one of the best I'd say, but you've seen that. How about Event Horizon? I do like Elysium as well, but a lot of people hate that one.

I liked Gattaca. But I always like my Sci-fi to have social commentary attached to it.

I saw Event Horizon in theaters, but don't recall liking it all that much. Though I was probably about 12. Might be do for a revisit.
I do need to check out Elysium. It seems everyone hates every movie lately. If Bladerunner came out tomorrow the internet would probably crap all over it. Interstellar gets its fair share of hate as well, but I thought it was astounding. However, I'm easily entertained.

Oh.. and Primer is another good one, so is Looper, but they are more time travel than space though.

I tend to love the things other people hate, not sure if hipster or strange :P
Not yet seen interstellar ( I HATE cinemas, people making noise and stuff.) But if you liked Moon you'd probably like Primer.

I actually like the films in the last two suggestions...
After Earth I wouldn't mind watching one day. Ice Spiders I need to watch. I wouldn't watch Battlefied Earth even if it was considered the best movie ever. Travolta weirded me out before it was cool to be weirded out by him. The only reason I watched The Punisher is because he dies in it.

Blade Runner Director's Cut is really good sci-fi, but everyone knows about that one. I enjoyed Edge of Tomorrow, too. Can't really think about anything else right now.

My favorite: The Right Stuff
Gravity
Apollo 13
Pitch Black
Aliens
Wall-E
Europa Report
I've always liked 2010. You can't go wrong with Lithgow and Scheider.
Go listen to the audio book of The Martian. Really, it is a great performance.

Bladerunner is likely my favorite film. Edge of Tomorrow I avoided because of Tom Cruise, but everyone keeps telling me it's great. I guess I'll need to check it out. Thanks.

Soylent Green, Logan's Run, Omega Man, Day the Earth Stood Still.
If you can get over the outdated effects they're awesome stories with interesting old school acting.

Episodes I-III? Seriously?
Hopefully, you actually meant Episodes IIII-VI. I-III (the prequels, released 1999+) were terrible.

"Currently watching 2001: A Space Odyssey"
You have my all time favorite.
Star Trek "The Motion Picture" would be second place and Tron to follow up in third.
Have you watched "Electric Dreams"?
It's more of Tech-Fi flick. It did predict a lot and there are a few cars involved.

Thanks. I'd been meaning to get The Right Stuff. I'll order that along with some of these other recommendations. I recall reading how the Right Stuff was a huge influence on Interstellar, and that Nolan influenced the studio into releasing it onto Blu-ray.
I've never been much of an audio book person, but I've been meaning to getting the novel. I know it was picked up for a film already.

Didn't think of Tron. I just binged watched all the Star Trek(original cast) films shortly after Nimoy's passing. The Motion Picture is highly underrated.
Never even heard of Electric Dreams. It looks wonderfully 80's. I'll have to check it out.

I-III Were masterworks of film. Pure excellence. They proved to the world that Lucas is the filmmaker of the century, unmatched in talent. M. Night Shyamalan is likely next in line to replace him as the greatest filmmaker of our generation.

I don't do a lot of audio books either, but this one was really good. I actually read the book on a flight from Christchurch to Singapore. When I was on amazon a couple of months later they offered me the audio book for $4. Totally worth it.
I didn't know the Right Stuff was out on Bluray. Tempting

Don't feed the trolls. None of those movies are any good. With the exception of episode III, which was pretty good in spite of Hayden Christiansen's and Lucas's efforts to make it bad.

From Earth to the Moon! I am an aerospace engineer. The episode where they show the development of the LEM is the single best depiction of what it is like to be an engineer that I have seen just about anywhere.

Electric Dreams is a great 80s flick. It's no Hughes film but it's fun.
The Star Trek Motion Picture is underrated. But it was a bit odd too.
Vee-ger agrees..

City of Lost Children, 12 Monkeys and the Iron Giant, I own and love.
Titan AE is good?
Brazil is on my list of movies I should be ashamed of not seeing. It's never on sale though.:(
Thanks for the suggestions.

Not sure if Looper counts but I'm a fan. I do like District 13 as well. They're the only two I can think of that haven't been suggested so far.
I must watch Interstellar. Missed it in the cinemas.
Do you like reading scifi as well as watching films? If so, I cannot recommend Pandoras Star and Judas Unchained by Peter F Hamilton too much. They're stunning books :)

Titan AE is surprisingly good. I enjoyed quite a bit. Nothing serious, but it is entertaining.
You should be ashamed. Are there not any used media stores around you? Brazil is worth buying at full price because it is one of those seminal films. You absolutely need to see it.

I know. I know. Damn thing is always like $40. There is a cheaper version, but that one is supposedly shit.
Before they closed, the Border's near me had it. On my near weekly trips there I would always look at, hopeful it was on clearance.
